Putin says Russia ready to use other currencies instead of dollar

ST.PETERSBURG, Jun 4 (PRIME) -- Russia is ready to consider using the euro in payments for gas, and the national currencies since the U.S. seems  not to value the dollar as the world reserve currency, President Vladimir Putin said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

"We are ready to speak about payments in the euros. The euro is absolutely fine for us in the gas payments. We may and probably must do this," Putin said.

"If an issuer, in this case, the U.S. does not value its currency as an international reserve currency, and, judging by everything, they do not, because they use it as a tool of competitive and political struggle, this harms the U.S. dollar of course as a global reserve currency," he said.

Putin said that oil companies could refuse to use the U.S. dollar, which would harm it.
